The plan for the new River Sauna and Restaurant complex in Rovaniemi has been created for a plot that is located directly on the Kemijoki riverfront, in close proximity to the Rovaniemi city center. The key idea of the plan was to create an active meeting place next to the center and as a part of the developing park area. The final concept for the plot consists of two separate building masses that encompass the sauna and restaurant functions respectively. The concept also includes a separate pier for swimming. The pedestrian and snowmobile routes that currently cross the plot have been preserved in the plan as well as the privacy of the sauna building.

When planning the functions and design of the River Sauna and Restaurant, special attention has been paid to the urban significance of the plot that is located in the Koskipuisto park, directly next to the popular municipal swimming beach. The new buildings have been carefully fitted as part of the existing park environment according to the municipal master plan. Existing greenery has been conserved where possible. The design of the buildings represents high quality wood architecture. The potential flooding of the river in the future has been taken into consideration in the key design solutions.
