The competition proposal Suvannonrinne stems from the spirit of the existing and future surroundings and introduces qualitative green views to each apartment. The blocks enable residents to live conveniently and encourage sustainable lifestyle choices. The plan consists of two blocks that create a park to complement the northern part of Kankaanpuisto. The old river bed is given new purpose as a bioswale. The park offers a view towards the historical buildings. The block along Paperitehtaankatu connects to the heart of Kangas and extends the urban block structure towards the north. The block consisting of low-rise buildings on the Tourujoki side acts as an intermediary in the direction of the low-rise buildings on the northern slope. The Tourujoki riverside at the end of the park is dedicated to relaxation with a sauna.
The blocks hide a series of courtyards, which offer residents various services in the form of common spaces and yard equipment. The walking route brings together the different natures of the yard and parks: the pine trees of Kankaanpuisto extend into the Garden Quarter and the shore vegetation of Tourujoki Park into the Sports Quarter.
The blocks offer different living possibilities and diversify apartment types in Kangas area. The block next to Tourujoki consists of wooden lofts, double-height raw space modules that residents can complete themselves if they wish, and buildings with family apartments. The so-called front yard houses are located in the middle of Papertehtaankatu’s Garden block, which consist of units through the house, which are accessed through a wide hallway, the front yard.
